I think Dumoulin-Schultz has a decent amount of intrigue to it as well. Potential future implications. Schultz needs to prove that he can be more than just a really good chemistry fit with Cole on the bottom pairing in a sheltered role if he wants a future here. |

Someone said in the last blog the pens already have their championship rings. Can someone lead me to where I can see a picture of these rings? All I see online is remakes of the 91 92 and 09 ones, none that say official 2016 rings of the pens. |

When and where can I find pics of these rings? I want to buy another poopty metal 10 pound knockoff of it if I like it enough. Don't they normally post a pic of them online somewhere? - Zac_O
I know a guy that went to Mario's big celebration at his house and he had a picture of the new rings. Maybe they weren't distributed to the players yet so I guess I shouldn't say the players got their rings.

I just kind of assumed they gave them their rings because my buddy knows some "big guys" with the team. Those guys have them. Maybe the players don't yet. |

JMO, he will have to prove he can play more minutes than a sheltered role if he wants to have a chance to stay longer.

Essentially what I just said. Chances are good someone in the top 4 will be hurt at some point. First man up is probably Jultz. How he fairs on Maatta or Dumoulin's right will be a good measuring stick for his potential future here. I think he was really showing signs of promise last season of what he could be. He really strikes me as a guy who could learn to be strong on the boards, which is a good indication that he could learn to play in his own end much better. He does that, and he's mid pairing material. His offensive skills are top 4 caliber no question. |

In the video it looks like Bergeron was gasping for air every time they showed him on the bench. |

Does anyone know if they gave an MVP award for The Word Cup of Hockey? And who won it? |

So the pens will see first hand the aging effect of years in the white-house. |

I think Schultz has a chance to stick around even as a 3rd pairing guy since his salary got whacked and we have his rfa rights again, but it would certainly be nice if he could turn into a 4 or 5. Agree with Victoro there is some upside there.
Even though he can play with Letang, I hope Maatta bounces back and gets that job and Dumoulin can anchor the second pairing. He seems to play well regardless of who his partner is and I'd expect him to be a good balance to Schultz more offensive style just like he is with Daley. |

Can anyone verify we have his rfa rights again? We signed him as a true UFA. I know sites are listing him rfa but that seems like a mistake to me. Or do we have his rfa rights but it reverts back to his 3.9 QO level and doesn't reset at his current salary.

Best I can tell, because he still will not have reached the age or seasons limit, he becomes an rfa again even though he was just an ufa. Seems a weird quirk in the rules, but can't find it explained anywhere. I do know the Edmonton blogger here knew he was a rfa again pretty much as soon as he signed. I'd imagine it was discussed in Edmonton if they brought him back. But since all the cap sites are saying rfa, I'm going with it until proven otherwise.
Essentially the language for rfa only states age and seasons played qualifiers and mentions nothing about changing once you don't get a QO. Technically, he had been an UFA after college yet became a RFA again with Edmonton so as I read it becoming an UFA doesn't supercede the normal RFA rules moving forward. |

College UFA though is its own special process clearly defined. I know he doesn't meet the 7 years or 27 years old rule but figured once a true UFA always a true UFA.
Also very important what is QO level is now. If it reverts back to 3.9 instead of to his current salary then he's technically rfa but with the high qualifier likely to end up UFA again anyway. Actually would have thought this would have been a bigger issue with his agent lookinf for term or higher salary if he lost future rights signing cheaply here on 1 year deal.
I couldn't find anything thru google on his situation but I'm sure his agent thought thru it. If he has a sub 2 qualifier he might be a candidate for the expansion draft. |

I think Dumo/ Shultz and Daley/ Pouliot pass for decent pairs. Is Cole on the outside looking in at this point? I would like to see Bengsston, Percy, and Prow get at least a game each. This franchise has become quite deep on defense and in goal. |
